I'm so glad to see a move towards a more biblical and integrated approach to ministry. It's time to undo the damage many churches have created by segmenting and over-scheduling our families. We are taking steps towards family-centeredness in our church now, so I am most interested in seeing this unfold and develop.

Knowing your kids' names is critical! I was just hired at a church plant whose CM is growing steadily. These kids were used to various adults showing up on random weeks to teach. On my third or fourth week in the classroom I had a couple of girls who had shown up the first week and then never again. God granted me memory that particular Sunday....and I greeted them by name. The look in their eyes blew me away. By the simple act of voicing their name, they felt important, and known. After that, they showed up nearly every week and we forged a bond that was pretty cool.

As for relating to kids on their level....try subscribing to some of their magazines, watching their shows, playing their video games. It lends you credibility as an adult when you are trying to steer those all important faith conversations. I find that they figure if you know about their lives and culture, you can speak effectively on how their faith impacts their culture. Just a thought!

Yep... I majored in Sociology in college; so, Milgram was a big part of what we studied. This one and the prison experiment (I think that was Zimbardo) are two of my favorites.

Thanks Michael. I believe that this is God's heart for his people. I can't wait to see how he moves through these integrated groups at your church. Please keep us all posted! BLESSINGS.

I understand your situation and have no judgment for you or your family. Sorry if you read that into my post. My perspective is as one who was emotionally scarred from divorce as a child.
When I say I hate divorce, it is because I suffer from those scars daily.
My prayers are with you and your children. If I can do anything to serve you, please let me know.
We live in a fallen world. Thank God for His grace.
